About us

Built from Limpopo outward, for the communities it serves.

Ezamazwe Education began as a grassroots response to a simple observation: talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. What started in Lenyenye is now a growing ecosystem connecting learners, innovators and entrepreneurs to the tools they need to thrive.

About Ezamazwe Education

A grassroots innovation ecosystem for underserved communities.

Ezamazwe Education Centre for Innovation is a grassroots innovation ecosystem dedicated to unlocking the potential of underserved communities through education, innovation and enterprise development.

Founded on the belief that communities are not short of talent but often short of opportunity, Ezamazwe Education works at the intersection of education, technology, entrepreneurship and economic development to create pathways from learning to innovation and from innovation to sustainable livelihoods.

Today, our work spans four interconnected pillars: the Education Accelerator, the Grassroots Innovators Incubation Hub, the Enterprise & Employability Accelerator, and Performing Arts. Together, these pillars enable young people, rural women, people living with disabilities, entrepreneurs and community innovators to transform ideas into solutions that strengthen local economies and improve lives.

Mphele Sylvia Yelane

Founder & Executive Director

Mphele Sylvia Yelane founded Ezamazwe Education out of a conviction shaped by her background as an economic analyst: that sustainable development starts not in policy documents, but in classrooms, backyards and small businesses in places like Lenyenye, Limpopo.

Having seen first-hand how limited access to quality education, employment and entrepreneurial support can trap rural communities in cycles of poverty, she set out to build something different — an ecosystem that meets people where they are, rather than asking them to travel toward opportunity that was never built with them in mind.

Her mission is personal as much as professional: to see rural Limpopo's learners, women entrepreneurs and township economic drivers recognised not as beneficiaries of aid, but as the innovators and leaders they already are — equipped with the tools, mentorship and connections to prove it.

Under her leadership, Ezamazwe Education has grown from a local initiative into a collaborative network drawing partners from across sectors, all working toward the same goal: positioning South Africa's underserved communities as a catalyst for economic growth across the continent.

Our mission

Education as the foundation for economic development.

Quality education is the foundation for economic development — and it should be accessible to everyone. Ezamazwe Education supports learners, youth, rural women entrepreneurs and township economic drivers with the tools, mentorship and connectivity to build sustainable livelihoods. We integrate education and innovation to position South Africa's underserved communities as a catalyst for economic growth across the continent.

Rooted locally

Every program starts from the realities of Lenyenye and Limpopo's rural communities, not a generic template.

Scaled collaboratively

We grow through partnership — with universities, corporates and organisations that share our mission.

Built for dignity

Learners and entrepreneurs are treated as capable innovators, not passive recipients of support.
